Lead Groomer | Grooming & Team Leadership

Love dogs? Love grooming? Have a passion for teaching and helping others succeed? We're looking for a leader like you!

At Scenthound, we're on a mission to improve the health and wellness of dogs through routine hygiene care. We're looking for an experienced, confident, and compassionate Lead Groomer who takes pride in their work and is excited to help a team grow. At Scenthound, grooming is about health, hygiene, comfort, and manageable coats that make it easier for dog parents to maintain their pups between appointments. Our grooming approach focuses on consistent, practical results rather than breed-specific styling. As our Lead Groomer, you'll be a go-to resource for grooming knowledge, team development, and quality standards. You'll lead by example, train and mentor groomers and bathers, and help create an environment where team members feel supported, confident, and motivated to do their best work. If you're ready to combine your grooming skills with leadership and make a positive impact on both dogs and people, we'd love to meet you!

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive Pay: Hourly base pay, plus tips.
  • Career Advancement: Opportunities to grow into additional leadership and management positions.
  • Free Membership: Complimentary Scenthound service membership for your pup!
  • Leadership Development: Build your coaching, training, and team-management skills while helping others succeed.
  • Make an Impact: Help dogs stay clean, comfortable, and healthy while developing a strong, confident grooming team.

About the Position The Lead Groomer is an essential member of the Scenthound team, responsible for delivering quality grooming services while providing leadership, guidance, and training to groomers and bathers. You'll help ensure that every dog receives safe, consistent care that aligns with Scenthound's grooming standards. You'll also support team members as they develop their skills, identify areas where additional training is needed, and step in to help keep daily operations on track.

This role is about more than being a great groomer—it's about helping the entire team become great at what they do.

What You'll Need

  • At least one year of grooming experience or graduation from a grooming school.
  • Knowledge of coat types, grooming techniques, coat maintenance, and proper use of grooming tools.
  • The ability to safely lift up to 70 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work weekends.

Who We're Looking For We're looking for a confident groomer who enjoys sharing their knowledge, coaching others, and creating a positive team environment. Our ideal Lead Groomer is:

  • A Skilled Groomer: You consistently deliver quality results that meet Scenthound's grooming standards.
  • A Natural Teacher: You enjoy demonstrating techniques, answering questions, and helping others build confidence.
  • A Supportive Leader: You recognize individual strengths and areas for improvement and adapt your coaching to help each team member succeed.
  • Patient & Compassionate: You understand that dogs have different needs and temperaments, and you prioritize their comfort and safety.
  • A Strong Communicator: You provide clear feedback, listen to concerns, and communicate professionally with team members and dog parents.
  • Proactive & Dependable: You recognize when help is needed and take initiative to keep the team moving.
  • Accountable: You hold yourself and others to high standards while remaining open to feedback and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

Grooming & Quality Control

  • Maintain clean, comfortable, manageable coats that support routine hygiene and make at-home maintenance easier for dog parents.
  • Monitor grooming quality and help team members maintain consistent results.
  • Identify coat concerns, matting, and other issues that may affect a dog's comfort or the grooming process.
  • Promote safe handling practices and ensure the well-being of dogs throughout their appointments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary grooming environment.

Leadership, Training & Team Development

  • Provide daily leadership, guidance, and support to the grooming and bathing teams.
  • Train new groomers on Scenthound's grooming standards, procedures, and expectations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, constructive feedback, and hands-on demonstrations.
  • Recognize team members' strengths and identify opportunities for additional training.
  • Help team members improve grooming quality, efficiency, safety, and confidence.
  • Encourage open communication, teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Lead by example through professionalism, patience, and consistent performance.

Daily Operations & Team Support

  • Identify bottlenecks and areas where additional support is needed to keep appointments on schedule.
  • Work with bathers, groomers, and management to maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Communicate concerns and operational needs to the Scenter Manager.
  • Help ensure the team follows Scenthound's sanitation, cleaning, and safety procedures.
  • Support additional operational responsibilities as assigned by the Scenter Manager.

Skills & Abilities That Will Help You Succeed

  • Strong grooming skills and knowledge of coat care and safe grooming practices.
