Bring your financial leadership beyond the balance sheet. Minneapolis Glass is seeking an accomplished Director of Finance & Accounting who wants their work to influence where the business goes, not just report on it.
Do you like working alongside business leaders, using financial information to guide action, mentoring an accounting team, and making processes and systems better? Are you someone who is strategic and hands-on? If that describes your approach as a Finance Leader, we would welcome a conversation.
This is a highly visible leadership role reporting to the President. You will partner closely with fellow leaders, company ownership, and our Board of Directors to strengthen financial results and contribute to Minneapolis Glass's long-range direction. In addition to overseeing accounting and finance, you will have a voice in decisions throughout the company.
Compensation ranges from $160,000 to $185,000 based on experience. Our package also includes company-wide bonus opportunities, excellent health coverage with a low deductible, company-matched 401(k), work-life integration, and a collaborative workplace that welcomes your knowledge and input.
Your Role And Responsibilities
In this role, you will direct finance & accounting functions and act as a financial thought partner. Your work will include leading and developing a small accounting team as the function grows, enhancing financial systems and procedures, and making financial results useful for business decisions.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Contribute to company strategy as a Leadership Team member, offering financial perspective and recommendations aligned with business objectives.
- Help complete the stabilization of our recent Acumatica implementation and build scalable close and reporting processes. Become our lead Acumatica super user.
- Examine operational and financial information to uncover patterns, potential improvements, and issues that need attention, then communicate practical takeaways.
- Evaluate sales revenue, costs, working capital, cash movement, projections, performance indicators, and operational methods to identify ways to strengthen results.
- Personally own and direct day-to-day accounting including journal entries and reconciliations across the general ledger, receivables, payables, customer credit and collections, payroll, inventory costing, fixed assets, treasury, and monthly close, while building the team's capability.
- Coordinate budgets and financial forecasts with department leaders, encouraging ownership of results and sound financial choices.
- Put effective internal controls in place and maintain them to protect company resources and ensure dependable financial statements.
- Oversee the relationship with our external accounting firm, including coordination of tax planning and compliance work.
- Build return-on-investment analyses for capital projects and advise ownership on equipment purchases and growth opportunities.
- Set clear standards for the accounting team, provide coaching, and help employees grow while maintaining accountability.
- Identify ongoing opportunities to streamline work, lower expenses, improve processes, increase productivity, and enable profitable growth.
The Qualities That Help You Thrive
You will be well suited to this role if you:
- Possess a genuine curiosity and desire to explore.
- Willingly challenge assumptions and voice a different view constructively.
- Are equally effective discussing company strategy and working through the financial details that ensure accuracy.
- Explain what the numbers mean in a clear, compelling way that helps other leaders choose a course of action.
- Earn trust and form productive relationships with colleagues across departments.
- Enjoy coaching employees and creating a strong, effective accounting group.
- Leverage systems and technology to make information more reliable, accessible, and efficient to produce.
- Apply sound commercial judgment and recognize the connections between operational choices and financial outcomes.
- Adapt well to a quickly moving, entrepreneurial workplace with shifting priorities.
- Balance competing demands while staying focused on overall business priorities.
- Combine strategic forward-looking ideas with strong execution.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting is required. An MBA, MSA, and/or CPA is an advantage.
- 15+ years of progressively responsible work in accounting and finance.
- 5+ years in manufacturing and/or construction; experience in both is ideal.
- A minimum of 3 years managing an accounting or finance team.
- Demonstrated expertise in general ledger accounting, budgets, cost accounting, credit and collections, and fiscal management, including experience with project cost accounting and revenue recognition.
- Strong Excel capabilities and proficiency using financial software; knowledge of Acumatica is especially desirable.
- Background in a family-owned or privately held organization is beneficial.
- Participation on a senior leadership team is preferred.
